Vardhan Puri goes back to his Punjabi roots as he gets set to train in Bhangra

In 2019, Vardhan Puri made a smashing entry in the acting world with Yeh Saali Aashiqui. The debutante gave an impressive performance that created a lot of buzz. In 2023 he has multiple interesting projects up for release which includes a romcom directed by Kunal Kohli, a political thriller and a social comedy with Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri among others.

Vardhan is running quite a busy schedule with his shoots, but even amidst that, the actor has planned to make some time to familiarise himself with his culture and roots. The actor is soon going to start his training in the Punjabi dance form Bhangra and being from the northern state himself, he is excited to get to know his roots through this form.

An ecstatic Vardhan says, “I am a Punjabi and have so much love and fascination for its culture. My whole family is rooted in that. And I think it is a great opportunity for me to explore that by learning Bhangra. It is a dance form that I have always been really fascinated by. I felt magnetised towards its charm.”

The actor adds that he has done contemporary, Hip Hop and Bollywood dance before, but in the past few years, he has felt a pull towards Bhangra. “It is such an amazing form of expression and I can’t wait to start my training. Bhangra and Gidda look so appealing to the eye. I recently did a trial class and I felt so liberated doing that. Bhangra just lights up the stage or the screen wherever it is performed on. I feel it will help me connect with my Punjabi culture more too,” he insists.

Being a Punjabi, Vardhan remembers doing Bhangra during Lohri and casually at parties and functions with friends and family. But he realises that it’s not the properly trained one. “I have never really learnt it or received training from a Sikh person for the actual expression that goes into it. It’s actually a very loving form, there is a romanticism in Bhangra. I don’t feel that grace in any other dance form. I am waiting for the day to start my training. I am sure it will be a learning experience and an emotional journey,” he concludes.
