Celebrating Heritage: World Heritage Week 2024 at Madhya Pradesh Museums

To spread awareness about their value, various initiatives have been undertaken over time, targeting youth and the general public. As part of this effort, the State Museum in the capital is organizing a special multi-dimensional program series. Through this event, we aim to share key insights and unique aspects of our heritage with the public.

World Heritage Week – A Major Event 

The ‘World Heritage Week,’ held from November 19 to 24 in Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Indore, is an important initiative for the conservation and promotion of Indian heritage. The event will be inaugurated by Honorable Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi. The program will take place at the State Museum in Bhopal (Shyamla Hills), Gwalior’s Gujri Mahal, Jabalpur’s Rani Durgawati Museum, Indore’s Indore Museum, and Ujjain’s Triveni Museum.

Lectures – Shedding Light on the Priceless Treasures of Heritage

On the first day of World Heritage Week, November 19, a special lecture will be held with the theme “World Heritage.” The lecture will cover significant aspects of heritage both from India and abroad. Archaeological experts Dr. Rajendra Yadav, Umakant Pachori, and Dr. C.S. Saxena will share their experiences and knowledge on this topic. The lecture is open to the public, allowing attendees to gain new and intriguing information about our heritage.

Engaging Programs and Competitions

During this week, there will be various activities such as a shadow-graph exhibition on ancient Indian monuments, a series of lectures, a painting competition, and cultural folk dance performances. The exhibition will be inaugurated on November 19 and will remain open until November 24.

In addition, a special quiz competition will be organized for the youth and students, helping them to enhance their knowledge of heritage. Another highlight will be the painting competition, where participants will showcase the significance of heritage through their art.

As part of the celebrations, a Heritage Tour will also be organized, allowing the public to visit various heritage sites. This will help deepen their understanding of our cultural legacy.
