Interactive Session: Embrace Compassion – Giving a Voice to the Voiceless
Kolkata, 12th August 2024: Chhaya Animal Hospital, operating under the registered trust People for the Respect and Care of Animals (PRCA), hosted a significant interactive session titled “Embrace Compassion – Giving a Voice to the Voiceless” at the Kenilworth Hotel, Kolkata. The event underscored Chhaya Animal Hospital’s unwavering commitment to rescuing, treating, and sheltering injured, abandoned, and abused animals across West Bengal.
Esteemed Attendees:
The event saw the participation of notable figures including Mr. Dilip Doshi, Former Cricketer; Mr. Raju Bharat, CMD of Kenilworth Hotels; Mr. Utsav Parekh, Chairman of SMIFS Capital Markets Limited; Mr. Gaurang Jalan, National Award-winning Filmmaker; Mr. Bickram Ghosh, Maestro Tabla Player; Ms. Alokananda Roy, Dancer and Social Activist; Dr. V. R. A Beacon of Hope:
Chhaya Animal Hospital has been a sanctuary for animals in distress since its inception in 2008. Spanning 40,000 sq. ft., the hospital is equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including 66 ventilated kennels, a state-of-the-art operation theatre, and solar-powered amenities. To date, it has provided care to over 100,000 animals.
Mission and Vision:
Ms. Sharda Radhakrishnan, Founder Trustee of Chhaya, shared the organization’s inspiring journey. “Our mission has always been to create a safe haven for street animals, offering them the care and respect they deserve. We operate with a no-kill policy, focusing on treatment and rehabilitation, even for animals with severe conditions such as cancer or amputation.”
Ongoing Projects:
The event highlighted Chhaya’s innovative initiatives, including their Gaushala for injured cows and horses and the CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) program, which neuters approximately 200 dogs each month.
Community Support and Recognition:
The contributions of Mr. Utsav Parekh and Mr. R. Chamaria were acknowledged for their pivotal roles in the hospital’s establishment and growth. Mr. Dilip Doshi, a long-time supporter, emphasized that the success of Chhaya Animal Hospital reflects the collective efforts of passionate individuals and organizations dedicated to animal welfare.
