Following the phenomenal success of Bohurupi, one of Bengali cinema’s most-loved characters is all set to make her return. Koushani Mukherjee reprises her role as Jhimli in Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s much-awaited Bohurupi: The Golden Daku, arriving this Durga Puja 2026.
While audiences fell in love with the chemistry between Bikram and Jhimli in the first film, the sequel promises to take their relationship in an entirely new direction. Bigger in scale, richer in emotion and packed with unexpected twists, Bohurupi: The Golden Daku expands the world of its predecessor while giving Jhimli a far more layered and compelling journey.
Sharing her excitement, Koushani Mukherjee said, “Jhimli is back on the big screen with Bohurupi: The Golden Daku, and I’m incredibly excited to step into her shoes once again. Audiences embraced Bikram and Jhimli’s chemistry in Bohurupi, and this time, their journey returns with even more depth, emotion, romance and surprises. The scale of the film is much bigger, with extensive location shoots, making the entire experience grander than before. Jhimli herself has evolved in many ways, she’s a wife, a mother, a pocket-picker, and a woman with multiple shades. I also get to portray her through five distinct looks, each reflecting a different phase of her journey. I truly believe audiences will discover a new side of Jhimli and connect with her all over again.”
Speaking about Jhimli’s evolution, filmmakers Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee shared, “When we began writing Bohurupi: The Golden Daku, we knew Jhimli couldn’t remain the same person audiences met in the first film. Life has changed her, her relationships have deepened and her choices carry greater emotional weight. Sohini has brought remarkable maturity and nuance to the character, making Jhimli’s journey even more layered. We are excited for audiences to witness her transformation on the big screen this Puja.”
With a larger canvas, a thrilling dacoit story and beloved characters returning in unexpected ways, Bohurupi: The Golden Daku promises to be one of the biggest cinematic attractions of Durga Puja 2026.
