Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh Aims to Take Marathi Cinema to Newer Levels with Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company’s Raja Shivaji

Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company’s Raja Shivaji is easily one of the most talked-about films right now. Headlined, helmed, produced and written by Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh, the ambitious spectacle chronicles the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Deshmukh, who has been active in the film industry for nearly 25 years, enjoys a genuine fanbase in Hindi and Marathi cinema. In fact, he is also among the very few actors who has not delivered a single Marathi flop film. After serving engaging spectacles, the actor is coming up with his dream historical spectacle, Raja Shivaji.

Raja Shivaji celebrates the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and it features a formidable ensemble from Hindi and Marathi cinema, including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amol Gupte, Genelia Deshmukh, and Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The roaring teaser of Raja Shivaji was released a few weeks ago, and it was lovingly embraced by the audience, igniting a positive response from them. Billed as one of the biggest pan-India spectacles crafted in Marathi cinema, Raja Shivaji is gaining immense buzz for its global scale, grandeur, high-octane action, rich world-building, and top technical excellence. Celebrated duo Ajay-Atul have composed the film’s stirring music, adding weight to its historical grandiosity.

Riteish Deshmukh has built a reputation for tapping into substantial projects and characters. In addition to experimenting with his choices, the actor has also served commercial hits including Ved, Mauli, and Lai Bhari, proving his box office pull. All three films emerged as box office hits, with Ved collecting over Rs.73 crore and Lai Bhari minting nearly Rs.33 crore at the Indian box office.

With Raja Shivaji, Riteish Deshmukh takes an even bigger leap with a film that focuses more on a deeply rooted story while also aiming to reach a bigger audience. What makes this creation even more special is the way he strikes a balance between mass entertainer and substantial cinema.

Presented by Jio Studios, Raja Shivaji, a Mumbai Film Company production, is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh. Raja Shivaji, a historical epic based on the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is set to release in cinemas worldwide on 1 May 2026 in Marathi, and Hindi bringing to life an epic that celebrates India’s history with scale, soul, and spectacle.
