Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s premier film institute Whistling Woods International has announced a special FIVE DAYS screenwriting workshop series in association with the Screenwriters Association (SWA), FROM TODAY bringing together some of the most influential storytellers and industry leaders for an immersive learning experience.
The initiative will feature guest sessions by acclaimed filmmakers and creative leaders including Sriram Raghavan, Mohit Suri, and Zoya Akhtar along with industry professionals such as Aparna Purohit (CEO, Aamir Khan Productions), Aashish Singh (CEO, Red Chillies Entertainment), Sahira Nair (Amazon), Smita Singh (Raat Akeli Hai for Netflix and Khauf), and Divyanidhi Sharma (Laapata Ladies, Sitare Zameen Par). Through these sessions, students will gain firsthand insights into the craft of storytelling and the evolving landscape of cinema and streaming content.
The speakers have been associated with some of the most celebrated films and series including Andhadhun, Saiyaara, Gully Boy, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and the acclaimed series Mirzapur, among others. Their diverse experiences across theatrical films, OTT platforms, and production studios aim to give students a holistic understanding of modern storytelling.
Speaking about the initiative, Subhash Ghai reflected on the changing dynamics of storytelling in cinema. He said, “Screenwriting has evolved tremendously over the years. Earlier, films were often driven by stars and spectacle, but today the strength of any great film or series lies in the depth of its writing and characters. With the rise of digital platforms and global audiences, writers have the freedom to explore new formats, complex emotions, and authentic voices. At Whistling Woods International, our aim is to nurture this new generation of storytellers who will shape the future of cinema through powerful scripts.”
The workshop underscores Whistling Woods International’s commitment to bridging academic learning with real-world industry exposure. By bringing accomplished filmmakers and writers into the classroom, the institute continues to provide aspiring storytellers with invaluable mentorship and practical insights into the art and business of screenwriting.
