We have said bye-bye to 2023 and entered 2024. Every time we take some resolution in the New Year. In this resolution we resolve to leave an old bad habit or adopt a new habit. But we are able to adopt this resolution only for a few days and after that we go back to the same old pattern.
There are many people among us who always want to give up some of our bad habits and adopt new good habits. Many people become successful in it, but there are many people who fail in it.
If you are also one of those people who have trouble adopting new habits, then today’s article is just for you –
Adopting one habit at a time:
We all have a habit that after watching some motivational video or on someone else’s advice, we start working on adopting many new habits at once. For example, sometimes we decide that we will wake up early every morning, do exercise for half an hour, do yoga for a while and then continue it. In this example we saw that we started working on 3 habits simultaneously. In such a situation we are not able to continue it. Instead, if we adopt one thing at a time and continue it for a few days, then after some time it will become our habit. After that we should work on adopting the next habit.
Breaking the goal into pieces:
Whenever we try to adopt a new habit, we set big goals related to it. When we go to the gym, we think in the beginning whether we want to build a good body or get six pack abs. Instead, we should divide our big goal into smaller pieces. Like for gym, we can decide that first we will try to lift light weight, then gradually increase the weight. By doing this, when we accomplish our small goals, our confidence increases and we will move towards achieving our bigger goal.
Not getting immediate results:
When we adopt a new habit, we want immediate results. When a person starts his new YouTube channel or blog, he thinks that as soon as he starts it, he should start getting traffic. But it is not necessary that he gets such results. This can happen when adopting any new habit, whether it is exercising or learning a new skill. If immediate results are not achieved, the person becomes frustrated and stops doing that habit or work. Adopting a new habit instead requires continuous work on it. If you do this then you will definitely get positive results, if not today then tomorrow.
Focusing only on goals:
Whenever we adopt a new habit, we start focusing on its results. Once you start working on that habit, instead of focusing on its result, you should focus on its action plan. When we continue to work on the action plan, we will definitely get results.
Changing your surroundings:
For every habit of ours it is necessary to change the environment around us. Suppose someone has a habit of drinking alcohol, then it is obvious that the people he associates with will be people who drink alcohol. Now if that person wants to give up alcohol addiction, he will have to maintain some distance from people who drink alcohol. Similarly, to adopt or leave any habit, whether good or bad, we will have to make some changes related to it around us.
Many of us have trouble giving up an old habit or adopting a new one. But by adopting these methods mentioned above, we can change our habits. If we make small changes in our habits, these changes can give us good results in the future.
